Prof. Paul Glover BSc, ARCS, MSc, PhD

My research is aimed at understanding the physical properties of rocks through experiment, numerical modelling, the development of theory, and application. I am particularly interested in the electrical and electro-kinetic properties of rocks.

These properties have their origins at extremely small scales because they are controlled by interactions between the surface of minerals and the molecules composing the pore fluid. Normally, it is their macroscopic effects that are measured in the laboratory on hand sized samples, and it is their megascopic outcomes that have consequences for humanity in the form of volcanoes, earthquakes, polluted aquifers and hydrocarbon extraction.

I am currently involved in the development of experimental devices to measure the DC and AC electro-kinetic properties of reservoir rocks, and the development of improved theoretical basis for these properties.

Dr. Paul Glover is very happy to announce that he will be leaving Université Laval at the end of July to take up the Chair of Petrophysics in the School of Earth and Environment at The University of Leeds.
